Exactech and ASES Partner Host Inaugural Conference for Shoulder Surgeons

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (June 14, 2023) – Exactech, a developer and producer of innovative implants, instrumentation, and smart technologies for joint replacement surgery, partnered with American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and the ASES Foundation (ASESF) to sponsor and host the inaugural ASES Mentor/Mentee Conference recently on Exactech’s campus.

Throughout this medical education conference, ASES surgeon leaders collaborated to discuss various topics of interest, including mentorship, current clinical research, innovation, intellectual property, industry and surgeon collaboration, as well as current and future transformative technologies like machine learning and computer navigation.

Collaboration is crucial to help equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills needed to not only help provide the best possible care for our patients, but to also continue to advance the world of shoulder and elbow surgery. I came away inspired, and I would encourage others to learn more about opportunities like this.
Rafael Buerba, MD/MHSAttendee

“It was a great honor to host and have the opportunity to participate in this meeting with ASES and ASESF at Exactech,” said Emery Patton, Exactech’s Sr. Director of Extremities Marketing. “The highlights for me were learning from current and future leaders in the field, as well as the value of surgeon and industry partnerships that help lead to new advancements in shoulder arthroplasty and overall healthcare. It was an incredibly rewarding meeting that exemplified the shared interests and vision of ASES, ASESF and Exactech to help equip surgeons in and out of the operating room.”

The mission of the ASES Foundation is to foster scientific advances and enhance the study of shoulder and elbow surgery. Exactech’s Equinoxe® shoulder program reflects that mission, offering a complete line of innovative solutions driven by clinical research and data. With more than 200 published papers focused on the clinical use of Equinoxe products and technologies, Equinoxe research is powered by the world’s largest single-shoulder prosthesis outcomes database of more than 15,000 patients.

ASES member Quin Throckmorton, MD, commented, “The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and ASES Foundation greatly appreciate Exactech’s support of this program, which is designed to pair established thought leaders in our field with early-in-practice members who may wish to become more involved in our Foundation and Society.

“The ASES mentor/mentee meeting was an awesome experience,” said attendee Rafael Buerba, MD/MHS. “As a young medical professional, I was able to approach world-renowned faculty on a more personal level without feeling intimidated. I was able to expand my knowledge base and ask questions around numerous topics that included how to tackle emerging challenges, product innovation, industry collaboration and mentorship. Collaboration is crucial to help equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills needed to not only help provide the best possible care for our patients, but to also continue to advance the world of shoulder and elbow surgery. I came away inspired, and I would encourage others to learn more about opportunities like this.”
